Clayton
- The
Thousand
Islands
Colby
Thursday
July 29,
2004
On July
27th we
left
Sackets
Harbor
about
noon in
a
tapering
drizzle
for the
35 mile
trip to
Clayton,
NY. The
wind was
out of
the East
so there
was
little
fetch
keeping
the ride
comfortable.
As we
got into
the
Thousand
Islands
the
water
was flat
even
with a
15 knot
wind.
The
picture
above is
typical
of the
view
from our
boat in
almost
every
direction.
You
could
spend a
month
just
cruising
this
area.
By
2:30PM
we were
tied up
at the
Islander
Marina
which is
right
beside
the
Antique
Boat
Museum.
It was
recommended
by
Dennis
Dorsey
in
Oswego
and it
is one
of the
best
kept
facilities
we have
found.
We spent
a couple
of hours
in the
museum
but it
wasn't
enough
so we
returned
the next
day.
Today,
July 28,
I took a
ride
offered
by the
museum
in a
replica
Hackercraft.
It was a
great
way to
see
Islands
and hear
the
history.
There a
number
of
pictures
of nice
boats
and
scenery
in the
photo
section.
If
heaven
doesn't
have
boats
like the
ones I
saw, I
don't
want to
go.
It is
unfortunate
that all
the new
pictures
are
appended
with the
provided
authoring
tool to
the end
of the
gallery,
so you
will
have to
click
through
the
early
pictures
to see
them.
Next
trip I
may have
to learn
to use a
better
web
publishing
toolset.
We are
off
tomorrow
for a
day
visit to
Boldt
Castle
and then
for a
stay at
one of
the
island
parks.
Friday
we are
in
Gananoque,
Ontario
and then
the
weekend
we are
in
Kingston,
Ontario.
Monday
we plan
to start
the
Rideau
Canal to
Ottawa.
This
update
has me
connected
by phone
to the
internet
from the
marina
office.
It could
be a
while
before
the next
posting.
The
cruise
couldn’t
be
better.
Cheers. |
